Hillgren triggers Lightning sweep
Sage Hill School sophomore Sophia Hillgren pounded 14 kills to lead
the Lightning girls volleyball team to a 25-22, 25-18, 25-14 Academy
League victory at Capistrano Valley Christian Monday.
Vista Murphy and Sam Burns added eight kills each for the winners,
who received eight digs from Cat Dailey.
Sage Hill improved to 7-5, 5-2 in league. The Lightning sit in
third place in league, trailing St. Margaret’s and Brethren Christian
for the league’s two guaranteed spots in the CIF Southern Section
playoffs.
Sage hosts St. Margaret’s Wednesday and concludes its regular
season against Brethren Christian next week.
Mustangs get forfeit win
* GOLF: The Costa Mesa High girls golf team earned a forfeit
victory over Golden West League visitor Orange Monday, when the
Panthers failed to field the required four golfers to hold a match.
The teams played nine holes anyway at the Costa Mesa Golf &
Country Club and Jean You paced the Mustangs with a 7-over-par 42.
Rachel Hughes (51), Teresa Stephens (57) and Melissa Pardo (58)
also scored for the winners.
Dons edge Pirates
GOLF: The Orange Coast College women’s golf team was edged,
363-365, by host Santa Ana in an Orange Empire Conference match
Monday at River View Golf Club in Santa Ana.
Lorraine Fernando led the Pirates with a 14-over-par 84 over 18
holes. Joanne Durocher (89), Ashlee Kendall (94) and Laura Sumpter
(98) also scored for Coach Barry Wallace’s squad.
Orange Coast fell to 12-10, 8-4 in conference.
Wallace said all players were allowed to ride in carts as a
concession to concerns about air quality.
