UCI business school makes the grade

UC Irvine’s Graduate School of Management made the top 20 of

executive MBA programs in the country, according to a list published

last week by the Financial Times newspaper.

The school shot up to number 15 from 24 on the annually published

list. Only Purdue and Temple universities reported bigger climbs.

The UCI program is designed for working executives who attend

weekend classes.

Nationally, the school also ranks 12th in the work experience of

its executive MBA students, with more than 14 years, according to

Erik Charles, director of the program.

Violin recital at central library

Violinist Linda Wang will give a recital at 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the

Newport Beach Public Library. Wang debuted with the New York

Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 9 and won first prize of the

International Markneukirchen Competition in Germany along with other

honors.

A course in using the World Wide Web for intermediate-level

computer users will be given at the Central Branch of the Newport

Vanguard names new alumni relations director

Vanguard University named Colette Smith as its new alumni

relations director last week.

Smith received the promotion from her former position as associate

director of development. Before working for Vanguard, Smith worked

for the communications department for the Getty Museum and Olive

Crest, a foundation for abused children.

The Yorba Linda resident is also actively involved with Southern

California Labrador Retriever Rescue with her husband, Mark. She

graduated in 1992 from Azusa Pacific University.
