OCC women open with win

Sophomore center Alisa Carrillo scored 22 points and sophomore guard

Amy Shaw added 12 points and three assists as the defending state

champion Orange Coast College women’s basketball team opened the

season with a 60-44 victory over L.A. Valley on Friday in the first

round of the Mount San Antonio College tournament.

Jessica Chades chipped in with three assists and six points for

OCC, which plays the winner of Mt. SAC-Southwestern at 7 p.m.

tonight.

Vanguard falls to host in Utah tournament

The Vanguard University men’s team lost to tournament host

Westminster, 79-71, Friday night at Payne Gymnasium in Salt Lake

City, where the Lions (1-1) will face Montana Western at 4 p.m. today

in their final contest.

Adam Hiatt led Westminster with 20 points, four assists and two

steals, while VU’s Brian Kim led all scorers with 21 points.

Leon Rosborough added 16 points and two blocked shots for the

Lions

Also, Horace Wormely had 13 points, three assists and two steals.
