GREER WYLDER

At the Plantation House, find an eclectic blend of home furnishings

that are quality and an exceptional value.

Owner Pauline Doherty selects everything mostly in Los Angeles.

She says with the incredible vendors, there isn’t a need to buy out

of the country. Doherty also designs vignettes, creates eye-catching

window displays, and even offers interior design. Her husband, Carter

Brown, make all the custom furniture.

They can custom design any piece: built-in cabinets, tables,

benches, beds and more -- mostly from high-quality alder. Exotic

hardwoods are available, too. The showroom has a British

Colonial-look, with Asian-fused accent pieces. A sofa line is also

available, with high-quality fabrics to choose from.

The Plantation House is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to

Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It’s at 1686 Tustin Ave.

in Costa Mesa. Call (949) 646-5440.

the company boasts more than 20 design showrooms throughout the

country. Its innovative “drapery out of a box” is a top seller for

instant decorating gratification. Drapes come in two sizes, fitting

most windows. The design house features more than exclusive fabrics

-- including cottons, linens, textured silks, wools and detailed

embroidery -- in colors subtle to vibrant. Prices vary from $16 to

$200 per yard. Also, find a complimentary furniture collection that

suits sophisticated rooms, sleek interiors and urban lofts. Product

lines include an organic-based interior paint for a “plaster look”;

THAT’S A LOT OF THREADS

Newport-based Between the Sheets is a high-end linen boutique and

the only store that offers unprecedented 1,000-plus thread count

sheets. The oversized sheets (118 inches wide compared to the

standard 106 inches) have a 1,020 thread count -- referring to the

number of horizontal (weft) and vertical (warp) threads in one square

inch of fabric. Owners Sandra and Paul Marx say that thread counts in

most sheets range from 180 to 320. “We worked closely with mill

operators in Italy to develop this product line that features the

finest in luxury, comfort, beauty and durability. It’s really the

ultimate woven Egyptian cotton product in the market,” Sandra Marx

said. There are also 1,000-plus thread count duvet covers and shams.

The linens have a distinctive double hemstitched style, available in

white and ecru and in sizes including California and Eastern King,

Queen and extra long twin. The linens should be machine washed and

dried. Since 1986, Between the Sheets has offered the world’s finest

linens. Its sophisticated clientele select European-quality sheets,
