Harman will be on hand at Circle View

Assemblyman Tom Harman will host an ice cream social for everyone

at Circle View Elementary School Friday to congratulate them on

becoming a Blue Ribbon School.

Developed by the secretary of education in 1982, the Blue Ribbon

program was designed to identify and give recognition to outstanding

schools nationwide.

“I believe it’s important for everyone to take notice of what has

been accomplished -- hosting an ice cream social is my way to say

thank you for all your hard work,” Harman said in a press release.

Circle View Elementary School, in the Ocean View School District,

was selected as one of only 35 schools in California and two in the

67th Assembly District.

Veterans award two students for essays

Two students were awarded for writing outstanding essays on

America by Huntington Beach Post 11548, veterans of foreign wars of

the United States.

Edison High School’s Jacqueline Thompson won first place in the

high school and is eligible for the national competition, which

awards the winner a $25,000 scholarship. Dwyer Middle School’s Nathan

Hyman won the junior-high division and is eligible to win a $10,000

government bond. High School runners up were Edison’s James Bezjian

and Marina High School’s Alexandra Jaspers. Students had to write

essays with the theme, “My Commitment to America’s Future.”

Amanda Correia and Jeffrey Nakashioya, both from Marine View

Middle School, were also named runners up.
