Mother of student killed in South Africa to speak at school
Linda Biehl, mother of Amy Biehl, the 26-year-old student who was
killed in South Africa 10 years ago, will be the inaugural speaker of
the Sage Hill School’s Community Speaker Series.
The event will take place on at 7 p.m. Monday at the school
located at 20402 Newport Coast Drive.
The Amy Biehl Foundation was created by Linda and her late
husband, Peter Biehl, in memory of their daughter, who was studying
and supporting the fight for democracy in South Africa.
Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family. For information,

Biehl Foundation.
Friends of OCC library to hold talk on giving books as gifts
“Books, Books, Wonderful Books,” sponsored by the friends of
Orange Coast College’s Norman E. Watson Library, will look at books
as holiday gifts.
The Dec. 4 program will take place at 7:30 p.m. at a private
residence on Lido Isle.
Debbie Webb, OCC librarian, and Irma Wolfson, former manager of
the Latitude 33 Bookstore in Laguna Beach, will make the
presentation.
The two will review bestsellers, favorites, children’s literature,
gift books and more. Friends of the Library will receive a donation
back from each book sale.

Book donations needed year-round by Newport library
Donations of used books are needed year-round by the Newport Beach
Library Friends of the Library. The nonprofit group sells donated
books and uses the money to buy needed books for the public library’s
collections and to support other library programs.
The group operates a bookstore for this purpose at the Newport
Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. The store’s hours are from
10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m.
