Five Pirates earn All-OEC honors

Orange Empire Conference coaches selected two forwards, a midfielder

and two defenders from the Orange Coast College men’s soccer team to

the all-conference squad.

Sophomore defender John Gauthier, sophomore midfielder Joel

Sotolongo and freshman forward Jose Serpas were the three first-team

selections while sophomore defender Steve Vellanoweth and freshman

forward Eli Solis were picked to the second team.

Sotolongo finished his Coast career with 12 goals and 13 assists,

10 goals and seven assists coming this season.

Serpas scored 11 goals and added eight assists (30 points) for the

season, tallying all but one in each category during conference play.

Gauthier was one of the anchors on the Coast defense, while adding

two assists.

Vellanoweth’s speed, experience and technical ability gave the

Pirates an edge on defense.

Solis finished with seven goals and a team-leading 11 assists for

Coast (13-5-1, 10-3-1 in conference).
