‘Eaters sweep Highlanders

The UC Irvine women’s volleyball team, led by outside hitter Kelly

Wing’s 16 kills and career-high .394 hitting percentage, swept

visiting UC Riverside, 30-16, 30-23, 30-24, Friday night in Big West

Conference action at Crawford Court.

The Anteaters improved to 20-9, 11-6 in the Big West and will

conclude their regular season at 7 p.m. tonight against visiting Cal

State Fullerton.

Blocking was the key for Coach Charlie Brande’s squad, which

totaled 11 while UC Riverside had only two.

Opposite Dana Kurzbard, middle blocker Sami Cash and Wing each had

four block assists and a solo block to lead the Anteaters.

Kurzbard and outside hitter Terbrie Taylor added 10 kills apiece

for UCI, while libero Brenda Waterman led all players with 15 digs.

Ashlie Hain had 43 set assists for the UCI.

UC Riverside (9-19, 4-12) was led by middle blocker Rosanna

Parizek and outside hitter Jamie DeKiewiet, both of whom registered

14 kills.
