A city with a plan

I think the city of Newport Beach should have as least as much

influence over John Wayne Airport operations as the city of Irvine

has over the Great Park, and no less.

From what I see, John Wayne Airport is a healthy cash cow for the

county, so why change things now? What benefit would the county get

out of it?

Furthermore, why Newport Beach? John Wayne also is in the

influence of Costa Mesa where the tower and other facilities sit; or

why not Irvine, where the majority of roads have to come from to get

to the airport?

Newport Beach has no claim on John Wayne and should not be able to

manage it. I hope the board of supervisors puts a stop to this before

they spend millions on surveys and research.

The headline of the Saturday paper suggests that the Daily Pilot

is strictly a Newport Beach paper. Just glancing at it leads one to

believe that. Why not have the headline read “NB mulls running JWA”?

After reading the articles on the front page, I thought it would

be very helpful if there was a map showing exactly where east and

west Santa Ana Heights borders were, where exactly is the Coyote

Canyon Landfill and exactly where all the locations of the various

sections of the tidelands were. Surely, a map would help everyone

reading these articles become more intimately familiar with their

neighborhoods, cities, etc.

After all, what is the point of writing these articles if they

don’t convey accurately what they are describing?

Well, I think it’s a great idea. I think that the city should take

over the running of Orange County Airport or John Wayne Airport in as

much as that will give us control of how much it grows where it grows

and take it away from the county and give it to the city where it

really belongs.
