Matt White

School: Edison

Positions: Receiver/Defensive Back

Height/Weight: 5-11, 165

Year: Senior

Highlights: As has been the case for much of the season, White

once again was all over the field during Edison’s 31-14 victory at

A.B. Miller of Fontana in the opening round of the CIF-Southern

Section Division I playoffs.

At receiver, the senior caught six passes for 121 yards. Among those receptions was an 18-yard pass from Joshua Gage on a

double-pass play to close out the game’s scoring in the fourth

quarter. White also threw a touchdown pass, combining with Nate

Mitani on a 62-yard double-pass play for Edison’s second touchdown of

the night.

On special teams, White continually returned kickoffs and punts

into A.B. Miller territory and one punt return set up the Edison

offense inside the Rebels’ 10-yard line.

In the defensive backfield, he intercepted a pass to give him a

county-best eight on the season.

Note: With his eighth interception, White tied Edison’s

single-season record, established by the late Matt Hombs in 1982.

Hombs was killed in a car accident his senior year.

Coach’s Comments: “Matt gave another consistent, all-around

effort,” said Dave White, Matt’s father. “He did everything really

well and it’s special that he tied Matt Hombs’ school interception

record because he was such a great person and player.”

Dave White said that his son is named after Matt Hombs.
