A little snow in the Sawdust

This time of year the city brings out a bevy of extra art and

entertainment activities including the Sawdust Art Festival’s Winter

Fantasy, the big art sale at LagunaCanyonArtists.com, First Thursdays

Art Walk and Hospitality night.

WINTER FANTASIZING

The best way to get in the holiday spirit is to enjoy the festive

nature and shopping pleasure of the Sawdust Art Festival’s winter

show. It’s the largest show ever with 172 artists exhibiting and

selling their work.

Saturday was community day and it was a blast. I was asked to be a

judge for the second year now and enjoyed determining which were the

best trees and booths along with checking out the variety of art

mediums. The plethora of lights and decorations got me in the holiday

mood. And for icing they borrowed the snow blowing machine from the

Pageant of the Masters to add that extra something.

All went well as the Mayor Toni Iseman lighting the holiday tree,

the California Choreographers Dance Festival performed site-specific

dances, and the LagunaTunes, Laguna’s community choir and the

community band performed.

I’d have to say that my only complaint is that the man-made

snowfield isn’t for adults, whaaaaa.

The Winter Fantasy continues on this weekend and Dec. 6, 7, 13 and

14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A season pass is a scant $5. Sawdust is at

935 Laguna Canyon Road. For more information, call (949) 494-3030 or

go to https://www.sawdust

artfestival.org.

HOLIDAY OPEN STUDIO EVENT

Laguna Canyon Artists.com are having their Holiday Open Studio

Event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7 for which the public is

invited to check out more than 30 artist’s production studios.

Participating artists include the world-renowned and the

internationally acclaimed, to national and locally known individuals.

Original fine art/crafts in all media will be sold by the artist

as well as seasonal items including, decorations, cards and clothing.

It’s a great chance to meet the artists and talk to them about their

work. Prices vary starting at $15 for smaller ticket items such as

beads to original pieces. Many studios will create custom works.

It’s a great place to get some shopping done for yourself or

others.

Road and 21121 Castle Rock Road. For information, go to

ART WALK

One of my goals for First Thursdays Art Walk is to get to Joseph

Wise Fine Art Gallery on S. Coast Highway. It’s an incredible place

with amazing art. But I will be checking out as many galleries as

possible north, south and central.

A collaboration between Laguna College of Art and Design and

participating First Thursdays’ Galleries with student art on display

will culminate with a special post Art Walk party at Laguna College

of Art and Design located at 222 Laguna Canyon Road. Live music will

be performed by British singer/songwriter Jason Feddy.

Free shuttle service starts at Laguna Art Museum at 6:15 p.m. and

runs to 9 p.m. For information call (949) 497-0716 or go to

https://www.firstthursdays

artwalk.com.
