Newport not ready to go back to the old

In response to Ralph Warrington’s suggestions from Saturday’s

Readers Respond that “thousands of residents are subjected to

unnecessary noise when the planes could fly the old flight path,” it

is amazing and outright selfish!

To suggest and further propose any one neighborhood solely bear

the brunt of such noise brought about by the airport defeat/expansion

is ridiculous. As good courteous neighbors, we welcome your ability

to also share in the minute-by-minute conversation altering noise

intrusions and ultimate gratification that the growth of a local

airport provides (ha)!

In your bubble world, did you really think that you were/are so

isolated from the effects of further expansion of the airport? No one

in the world chooses to have an increase in commercial flights

directly overhead on a daily basis? Welcome to our Balboa Island

bubbleworld. We welcome the ability to share with all of our

neighbors equally.

Welcome to the new real world of Newport Beach and all that the

future airport expansion will impart upon our hearing, lifestyles and

subsequent property values.

Golf course a clean choice for landfill

As a Newport Coast resident, I look forward to the conversion of

the Coyote Canyon landfill site to a public golf course. At the

present time, the site is barren and unattractive, but with a golf

course, the aesthetics of the area would vastly improve.

Historically, closed landfill sites throughout Southern California

have been successfully converted to golf courses. Great land

planning.

I believe that the city of Newport Beach can do a superior job in

developing and managing the golf course as compared to development by

the county of Orange. Recently, the county of Orange issued a permit

for a cellular site in Newport Coast without public comment. This

permit would not be issued in Newport Beach without a duly noticed

public comment time period. I urge Mayor Steve Bromberg and Newport

Beach council members to move forward on this community enhancement

project.

Ridgeway should come clean about architect

Tod Ridgeway, Newport Beach city councilman and former mayor,

should come clean about his true relationship with Andrew Goetz, the

architect accused of multiple felonies in the current scandal

regarding the over-height buildings in Newport Beach.

At the each council meeting when the topic has come up, Ridgeway

has recused himself based on the fact that he once used Goetz as his

architect during a remodel project. The truth is that he and Andrew

have shared an office at 250 Newport Center Drive for years, a fact

on which Goetz often commented.

Now, if you go to their former suite, you will see that the

nameplate has been recently pulled off the door and Ridgeway’s

business card is unceremoniously taped to the door of an adjacent

suite. Why is Ridgeway hiding [what appears to be] the truth about

his actual relationship with Mr. Goetz? Simple embarrassment?

Perhaps. But we need to know.

Ridgeway is eyeing another term as mayor. Before the citizenry and

council consider his candidacy, he should come clean about his

connection with Goetz.
