Jr. Midget Green Chargers qualify for National Super Bowl

The Jr. Midget Green Chargers of the Huntington Beach Pop Warner

Football program are in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., competing for their

division title at the National Super Bowl Tournament.

It is the first time that Huntington Beach has qualified a team

for the national tournament.

The Jr. Midget Green Chargers are one of eight regional champions

from throughout the country in Florida competing for the

championship.

The tournament, in which Huntington Beach is guaranteed to play

two games, is being held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Jr. Midget Green Chargers will play an as-of-yet undetermined

opponent Saturday.

Huntington Beach qualified for the national tournament by

defeating Carlsbad, 14-8, in the championship final of the Western

Conference Regional Championships in El Centro.

The Jr. Midget Green Chargers opened the tournament Wednesday

against Pine Hills of Florida.

Huntington Beach is one of two Orange County Pop Warner programs

to have a team qualify for the national tournament. The other, Santa

Margarita, qualified its Pee Wee Division team.

The Huntington Beach Jr. Midget Green Chargers are comprised of

players Derrick Romo, Chance Ross, Christopher Siebel, Bradley

Grunbaum, Garrett Heckel, Brandon Visnoski, Scott Marcin, Anders

Torgersen, William Andrew, Dave Folger, Donald Sneed, Alex

Mascarenas, Jonathan Little, Cole Tischer, Quintin Schoonmaker,

Bijohn Samoodi, Danny Samarin III, Dustin Kuhn, Stephan Robb, Michael

VanDeripe, Nicholas Watt and Michael Bogard.

The Jr. Midget Green Chargers are coached by Rhett Heckel.

Assistant coaches are Dan Schoonmaker, Dave Tischer, John Siebel,

Dave Folger, James Watt and Tom Torgersen.
