South downs East in battle of Surf City foes

Sean Guite hit five three-pointers and Huntington Beach South rode

his game-high 23 points to a 62-52 victory over Huntington Beach East

in a National Junior Basketball seventh-grade All-Net Division game.

Guite was joined in double figures by Mike Moore, who scored 20 in

his All-Net debut, and Austin Kaneko, who contributed key baskets in

finishing with 10 points.

Daniel Rivera scored six points, Cole Farmer had three and Sal

Lacavera had two points to complete the Chargers’ scoring.

The victory put Huntington Beach South at 2-0 on the season.

Warriors 54, Avalanche 13

The North Huntington Beach Warriors ran their record to 2-1 by

routing the Avalanche.

Tucker Pikula scored a season-high 33 points and also led the

Warriors with 17 rebounds, five steals, two blocked shots and was

three of five from the foul line.

Zachary Gates had 11 points, Jake Wilson had three rebounds to go

along with five points and Jonathan Lai, Tyler Hammock, Peter Russo,

Andrew Bogard and Michael Meagher played solid defense and helped the

Warriors grab a season-high 39 rebounds.

GIRLS’

Division 2

South Huntington 23, East Huntington 22

The South Huntington Beach Fastbreak didn’t allow the East

Huntington Beach Seahawks a single point in the final two periods and

rallied to score a one-point victory at Ocean View High.

Kacie Gomez scored what turned out to be the game-winning basket

with just less than a minute to play, taking a pass from Jodi Hwang

to the basket.

Hwang topped the Fastbreak with 12 points and collected five

rebounds.

Kelsea Hann scored four points and finished with five rebounds

while Gomez, Allison McCoy, Kala Johnson and Devyn Bisson all scored.
