Masked gunman robs motel
A man wearing a clear, plastic face mask and brandishing a handgun
got away with an undetermined amount of money after he robbed a Costa
Mesa motel early Wednesday, police said.
The man, said to be between 25 and 30 years old, walked into the
Super 8 Motel in the 2600 block of Harbor Boulevard at about 1:38
a.m. and demanded cash from the clerk as he waved a handgun at him,
Lt. Dale Birney said.
“The clerk gave him the money, and he walked out, got on a bicycle
and rode away,” he said.
No one was hurt in the heist.
Wednesday’s incident was not connected to two similar robberies on
Sunday when two masked gunmen took money from two motels, Birney
said. Police believe the same pair robbed two motels in Santa Ana and
one in Irvine on Sunday night.
