Edison player tops Sunset League list

Senior Matt White, an invaluable member of the Edison High football

team, was named the Sunset League’s 2003 Most Valuable Player.

League coaches selected the players to two all-league teams and an

Honorable Mention list.

White started at receiver, defensive back and on special teams for

the Chargers, who gained a share of the 2003 Sunset League.

He finished the season as the county leader in receptions (64) and

interceptions (8).

“Matt had a terrific year and I’m very proud of what he

accomplished,” said Dave White, Edison’s coach and Matt’s father.

White was one of two Edison players to garner one of the league’s

top individual awards.

Senior Nate Mitani shared the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the

Year honor with Sean Clark of Los Alamitos.

“Nate was just outstanding on the field,” Dave White said.

Edison placed eight members of its squad on the all-league First

Team. Huntington Beach and Marina each had four players named to the

team.

On the Second Team, six Edison members and five each from

Huntington Beach and Marina made the team.

The Honorable Mention list consisted of two players each from

Edison and Marina and four from Huntington Beach.
