Corona del Mar High led from start to finish in the first round of

the Estancia High Coast Classic boys basketball tournament Friday,

defeating Norco, 50-44, to advance to the second round.

The Sea Kings (6-5) had an 11-point advantage with two minutes

remaining, but missed three consecutive layups, allowing Norco (4-8)

to cut the lead to 47-44.

“They were uncontested layups,” CdM Coach Ryan Curry said. “We had

a steal and a layup and two drives through the defense, but they just

didn’t fall. Then the other team smells blood.”

But Pancho Seaborn, who lead the Sea Kings with 26 points, halted

the bleeding by sinking a pair of free throws and Adam Freede added a

free throw late in the game.

The Sea Kings will face San Clemente at 4:50 p.m. today at

Estancia High.
