The Huntington Beach South Chargers ran its National Junior

Basketball record to 3-1 with a 54-36 rout of Tustin in boys’

sixth-grade All-Net action.

The Chargers took advantage of great perimeter shooting to take

command of the game.

Connor Hughes was hot from both outside and inside the paint,

finishing with 20 points and five rebounds. Sean Guite hit three,

three-point baskets and finished with 18 points and Cole Farmer got

all seven of his points on 7 of 8 shooting from the foul line.

In girls’ NJB action:

Division 2

Fastbreak 22, Fighting Irish 15

Paige Bisson scored eight points and Jodi Hwang had six points to

lead the Fastbreak in scoring.

Kelsea Hann scored four points and led the team in rebounding with

nine.

In youth volleyball:

Sowers downs Corona del Mar

The Sowers Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girls’

volleyball teams each improved to 2-0 by defeating Corona del Mar.

In the seventh-grade match, Sowers scored a 25-12, 26-24 victory.

Kelly Peterson had four aces in the first game and finished with

six overall for the match.

In game two, Jessica Crumby had three aces and Mary Madden had

three kills to lead the Lady Vikings.

Sowers was a 25-17, 26-24 winner in the eighth-grade match.

In the opening game, Cassidy McCraney and Meaghan Vernon each had

three aces.

In the second game, Sowers trailed, 24-20, but rallied as Natalie

Ball had four consecutive service points to tie the game at 24. Bree

Williston ended the match with an ace.

Williston and McCraney each had five kills in the match.

Sowers returns to the court Jan. 12 to face undefeated Harbor Day.
