FOA RETROSPECTIVE POSTER SHOW

A retrospective of Festival of Arts event posters from the past 20

years is being presented at the Downtown Laguna Beach Wells Fargo

through Jan. 5. Works of past and present Festival exhibitors are the

subject. Many of the original paintings are part of the Festival of

Arts permanent art collection. The exhibit is on the third floor of

the Wells Fargo building at 260 Ocean Ave. The building is open to

the public 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2

p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Anyone wishing to purchase a

‘REBELS IN CLAY’

Laguna Art Museum is exhibiting, “Rebels in Clay: Peter Voulkos

and the Otis Group.” In the mid 1950s, Voulkos led a revolution in

clay by questioning the tradition that ceramic forms must be

functional and instead created sculptural works that gave the medium

a new freedom of expression. “Feat of Clay: Five Decades of Jerry

Rothman” will run through February 29. In the ‘60s Laguna Beach

ceramic sculptor Rothman became well-known nationally for struggling

to enlarge the scope of and to overcome the limitations of ceramics

that made it unsuitable for the sculptural ambitions of the time. The

exhibit includes his controversial large scale triptychs of erotic

‘LATE NITE CATECHISM’

Laguna Playhouse extends again the international hit comedy

sensation “Late Nite Catechism” due to its continued sell-out

performances. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 and

LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE

The Laguna Playhouse presents “The Last Five Years,” a play that

shows there are two sides to every love story. A fresh and

contemporary musical from Tony-Award winning composer Jason Robert

Brown, “The Last Five Years” chronicles a young couple’s romance in a

new and exciting way: her story starts at the end of their

relationship; his begins on the day they met. The play will start

today at 8 p.m., tickets cost $33. The show is scheduled to run

OUR TOWN IN

THE EARLY 1900s

“Greetings from Laguna Beach: Our Town in the Early 1900s” at the

Laguna Art Museum will feature paintings, photographs and memorabilia

that chronicle life in Laguna Beach circa 1900 to 1930. The exhibit

includes works by William Wendt, Joseph Kleitsch, Clarence Hinkle,

Edgar Payne and Anna Hills. In 1910, Laguna’s population was around

300 and many of its residents were writers, artists and musicians --

much like today. Featuring many of Laguna Beach’s landmarks, past and

present, it’s a vivid history of Laguna Beach. Laguna Art Museum is

FAMILY SING-ALONG

Every fourth Friday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. No Square

Theatre will have a family sing-along with the renowned musician

Terry Alaric on piano. Show tunes and standards are encouraged for

ACTIVITIES AT LAM

Laguna Art museum is having “Sketching in the Galleries” from 6 to

8 p.m. through Feb. 5. Participants can sketch in the museum’s

galleries working from the three-dimensional ceramics on view. An

artist from the Laguna College of Art and Design will lead this

informal sketching group. Material provided and all ability levels

welcome. The museum will also host “Artists in Action” from 6 to 8

p.m. during First Thursdays Art Walk through Feb. 5. (There won’t be
