Kelani Payne, a student at Marina High School, has been selected to

attend Presidential Classroom’s National Security in a Democracy

program in March. Students selected for the program spend a week in

Washington, D.C., and have the opportunity to meet with members of

Congress, presidential appointees, senior military officers and

leaders in the private sector. The program will focus on the planning

and implementation of defense and homeland security policy ...

Huntington Beach resident Iain Dover has been named to the fall 2003

dean’s list at Loyola University in New Orleans. The honor is

reserved for students who achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or

higher ... Huntington Beach resident Jason Curns won $50, and Ralph

Boano, Mary Stiles, Mike Kapusta, and M. Michaels each won $25 as

part of a contest promoted by the financial company Cash Plus. The

contest awarded prizes to individuals and charities. The grand prize

was awarded to a San Diego woman who won $5,000 for herself and

$1,000 for the charity of her choice, S.A.Y. San Diego. The donation

will benefit programs for children and teens. Prize money also went

to Feed the Children, a Christian group that aids children and

families in the United States and in other countries.
