Bush’s immigrant worker proposal doesn’t work here

We are against the proposal. There is only so much money in the

state, and it belongs to those of us that are legally here.

The schools and hospitals should not be forced to give away what

many who live here must pay for or are denied. Jobs are being taken

away from U.S. citizens who deserve them.

Once here, illegals never go home. They have families, and we are

too darn kind. Once we see a human face we don’t -- or can’t -- send

them back or deny them rights that their own countries would not give

them.

We vote and intend to use that right as it is best used.

With 3.5 million jobs lost since he took office, President George

Bush apparently feels that either there is a labor shortage or that

American workers are paid too much.

Continually pouring foreign workers into low-skill jobs has kept

wages and benefits down and resulted in greater spending on social

services for these workers and their families.

Now, jobs at every level are threatened. A business can simply

post a job opening for a programmer at a ridiculously low wage, and

if no American jumps at it, a foreigner can come over and claim it.

All wages and benefits will be globalized to the prevailing wages in

foreign countries. If the grocery clerks do not like their new

contract, bring in some foreigners who do.

Also, do you really believe that this is temporary work program?

As these workers have children while working here, their children

will be U.S. citizens. I can see the marches and rallies saying they

should not have to go back to their homeland.

All we will be doing is adding to population growth that is

already too high and adding to the congestion, sprawl, and

environmental destruction that is eroding our quality of life, not to

mention the new low wages for almost all our jobs.

So, no, I do not agree with our president. At least he could call

for the deportation of the illegals holding jobs and advertise their

jobs to Americans. Why should they hold on to their illegally

obtained jobs?
