Lions sponsor Leo’s Club

Under the sponsorship and guidance of the Harbor Mesa Lion’s Club,

students at Costa Mesa High School have formed a Leo’s Club, which is

the teenage branch of Lion’s International.

The new club will have its charter night on Sunday from 5 to 8

p.m. at the Costa Mesa Country Club. The theme for the semiformal

event will be “Dancin’ Up the Ritz,” and dinner and dancing will be

featured. Officiating in the installation of the club and officers

will be the Lion’s District 4-L4 governor, Jim North. Sara Bryant, a

senior, will be installed as the president. More than 20 students

have joined the club and have many projects planned for the coming

EXCHANGE HONORS LIFEGUARDS, FIREFIGHTERS

The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor honored some of Newport

Beaches finest -- seasonal lifeguard Omar Kattan and regular

lifeguard Rob Williams, along with Firefighter of the Year Craig

Johnson. Deputy Chief Tom Arnold provided the introductions at the

luncheon meeting. Club President John Kruse gave his heartfelt thanks

to the honorees for the service to the community.

TURN SPEECH INTO TYPE

The Computer Friends of Oasis will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the

Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar to hear Barbara Duck present

“Tablet, Pocket and Media Enhancements for the PC.”

Her demonstration will include how speech and handwriting can be

turned into type using a tablet and pocket PC. She will also be

covering the new XP Media PC, which has many amazing features.

The meeting will begin with a general Q & A from 1 to 1:15 p.m.

followed by a speaker. Raffle tickets will be provided for everyone,

and refreshments will be served before a break for special interest

groups. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be

A COMPUTER LEARNING CENTER

Not to be outdone by Oasis, the Costa Mesa Senior Center offers a

computer learning center sponsored by Senior Net for those 50 and

older.

Eight-week classes begin this week: Introduction to Computer,

Printshop, Digital Photography, Money Management, E-mail, Internet,

Word Processing and Exploring Windows XP. The fee for classes is $65

for Costa Mesa Senior Center members and $75 for nonmembers. The fee

includes use of the supervised lab from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through

Friday.
