Catholics must carry on despite scandals

I sincerely appreciated the article titled, “A scandal hits home,”

by Deepa Bharath.

I’m deeply impressed with the courage, conviction and integrity of

John Manly as he attempts to help the victims of sexual abuse and

root out the corrupted hierarchy of the Catholic Church. He sets an

example for all of us Catholics to follow.

I believe he is truly guided by the Holy Spirit’s desire to open

the window of truth and “clean house.” Three Bishops, Cardinals and

Archbishops, who call themselves, “princes of the church” and the

“magisterium,” derive their power from the millions of dollars of the

good peoples’ money they have hoarded.

They are a menace to the people of the Catholic Church, not to

mention the church itself. They cause shame and embarrassment for all

the good and wonderful Catholic people and priests who do so much

good for us, and who truly make the church.

I applaud and support Manly’s pursuit of justice for the victims.

I admire how he has withstood the persecution of these “princes.”

Hopefully, when the “princes’” coffers are depleted, they will resign

in disgrace like the Cardinal Bernard F. Law, in Boston. They have

lost any moral authority they may have had and now they must leave.

We Catholics must not let these evil princes drive us out of our

church. We parishioners must stand and fight for truth and justice

for all the victims and the removal of these “princes.” We must take

back our church and drive out these corrupted criminals.

We know God must love the Catholic Church, as he loves all

churches dedicated to him, because we have survived more than 2,000

years under all these hypocrites. May God Bless the people.

Public safety is not always black and white

Re: Two-Tone Costa Mesa police cars; I found it interesting that

only one resident, identified in the story as Robert Graham, voiced

concern over the new color scheme of police cars calling it

“intimidating the public.”

I believe the Costa Mesa Police Department has a fine reputation

for public relations and will remain approachable in any color car.

It’s the person behind the badge, not the mode and color of

transportation, which has the greatest impact upon how the police are

perceived by the public. I could care less how they arrive, it’s how

they perform when they show up that truly matters.

Graham is a well-known city gadfly, who is best identified for his

one-man crusade to build the 19th Street bridge. I wonder if he would

show similar concern over the color of his bridge, should it ever be

constructed?

Greedy developers should be kept in check

All good people of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and the surrounding

areas should come together now and embrace the observations of Bill

Turner’s commentary, as he describes, “money-hungry developers.”

If these people are not stopped, and quickly, they will buy any

available land -- many times by dishonestly twisting their true

intentions to get approval -- and destroy the little bit of hometown

dignity and heritage. Our aged landmarks are ripe for purchase and

destruction by these heartless money-grubbers.

I have had the pleasure of working and hanging out with many of

these myopic land villains for 22 years and there is not one of that

that is worth their salt when it comes to ethics and morals. They all

prey on their neighbors and business associates, waiting for the time

they can strike and have a shot at the first option to purchase,

through false friendships and untrue intentions.

The motive for most of these people is money, money, money. They

have no real friendships, no real hobbies and certainly no loyalty to

the city or town they are helping destroy. A lot of times their

families will live here, their kids and grandkids will attend the

public school system and church but they will -- true to form -- only

use these connections as means to coerce more unsuspecting victims

into their web of purchase, develop, churn and burn.

I have personally been a part of this process but on the other

side of the coin. Where certain purchases were attempted and I tried

to save city landmarks. All this, only to be outbid by flush

developers, time and time again.

Turner, many thanks for the observational article, of which you

can be proud. And thank you also for having the guts to tell it like

really is in this millionaire’s paradise.

Duties at JWA should go into capable hands

Whoever takes over control of John Wayne Airport, I hope they do a

better job at public safety than the Orange County Sheriff’s

Department.

Several times I drove over on Sunday to use the one-hour parking

facility. Even though there was plenty of room available, the Sheriff

Department had closed up and gone home. There was no way to get in. I

called and complained but got no response.
