Edison edges Sailors

The Newport Harbor High surf team competed for the first time in a

month and lost a close contest to host Edison, 88-78, at Brookhurst

Street in Huntington Beach Tuesday. The Chargers won the meet when

they grabbed a victory in the final heat of the day.

Chase Smith and Bennet Schlesinger finished first and second,

respectively, in the boys long board event for the Sailors (8-3).

Jill Austin and Lisa Turk also earned first- and second-place

finishes, respectively, in the girls long board competition for

Newport.

Joey Head won a heat in the boys short board, while Mark Kidman

and Daniel Shea recorded second-place finishes and Steve Farmer and

Joe Riggio finished third in their respective heats. Daniel Mathews

finished second in the body board competition.
