The early season success of the Edison High soccer programs hasn’t

gone unnoticed in the CIF Southern Section’s weekly polling session.

Both the Chargers boys’ and girls’ squads are ranked among the top

10 in their respective Division I polls.

Edison’s girls, with a 13-1-1 record as of Monday’s polling, were

ranked No. 2, trailing only top-ranked San Clemente, a team Edison

defeated earlier in the season.

“We’ve been playing very well and have beaten several teams ranked

among the top 10,” Edison Coach Kerry McGrath-Crooks said.

Edison is one of two Sunset League teams to grace the poll, as Los

Alamitos, a team the Chargers defeated Jan. 8 to open up the Sunset

League race, comes in at No. 5.

In the boys’ soccer Division I poll, Edison was No. 6. Fountain

Valley, at No. 2 and Esperanza, at No. 5, gives the Sunset League

three teams ranked among the top 10.

Rancho Cucamonga is the top team in the Division I poll.

In the boys’ basketball Division III-AA poll, Golden West League

leader Ocean View was tied for third with Atascadero.

Santa Margarita leads the division, followed by No. 2 Calabasas.

In the girls’ basketball Division III-AA poll, Ocean View was

ranked sixth. Santa Margarita also topped the girls’ poll.

Huntington Beach received points in the girls’ basketball Division

II-AA poll but did not crack the top 10. Perennial power Troy heads

the division.

Edison’s wrestling team comes in at No. 6 in the Division II poll.

The Chargers are one of three Sunset League teams in the poll as

Esperanza is ranked No. 3 and Los Alamitos is seventh.

Marina was ranked 10th in the Division I girls’ water polo poll, a

division led by No. 1 Foothill.

Marina’s Sunset League rival, Los Alamitos, was ranked fifth.
