Local man dies in Victorville collision

A Newport Beach man died Friday in a crash involving three

vehicles in Victorville, according to the San Bernardino County

coroner’s office.

The crash occurred at 6:23 a.m. on Highway 395 south of Gross Road

when Nestor Gonzalez, 35, of Colton, apparently drove his 1990 Mazda

van northbound into the southbound lanes and sideswiped a 2003 Ford

F-450 truck. The truck flipped and came to rest in the roadway, said

Dave Carter of the coroner’s office.

Andrew Rios, 35, of Newport Beach, was driving a 2003 Ford

Explorer southbound on Highway 395 and struck the overturned truck.

Rios was pronounced dead at the scene, Carter said. Two

unidentified men who were ejected from Gonzalez’s van in the accident

also were pronounced dead. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department is

investigating the incident.
