Venus is a Siamese cat who has had several litters in the safety

of someone’s yard. Year after year, an animal-friendly woman had

taken the time to find the kittens new homes until finally she

exhausted her resources and had to keep most of the last litter.

Seeing Venus pregnant again brought fear to the good rescuer, who

was wondering how she could manage alone this time. She called

Community Animal Network for help. Venus was rescued just a week

before her four babies were born on Jan. 25.

Venus and others like her need temporary homes until the young are

ready to move to new families. The appropriate age for kittens to

leave their moms is between 9 and 10 weeks. Unfortunately, the public

separates and gives kittens away at six weeks, or even earlier.

Animals learn many important grooming and socialization cues from

their moms and siblings. We keep moms and babies together to develop

better social skills, and we always suggest that people adopt two

kittens of the same age to continue their social development.
