Companion Hospice is now recruiting volunteers for an upcoming

training session, which will be facilitated in the Huntington Beach

area, and is scheduled to begin Feb. 19. Become a friend for someone

who needs that extra special caring at the end-of-life. Each

July Centennial Celebration’s Community Grand Marshal. Candidates

MONDAY

Amnesty International local group #596 will host a panel

discussion on Afghanistan. Scheduled speakers include psychologist

Nahid Aziz, attorney Bashir Ghazialam and attorney Robbie Prepas. The

discussion will include comments on human rights, women’s rights and

medical conditions in Afghanistan. The 7 p.m. meeting will be held in

The Huntington Beach Christian Women’s Club will host its

February luncheon, “Farewell to Winter.” The event will feature the

melodies of Darrellyn Melilli and the scheduled speaker is Faye

Miller. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Los

Huntington Harbour Republican Women Federated will hold a general

meeting to discuss candidates for the Congress, the State

Legislature, 1st District Supervisor, Measure E and other

Community for Class Size Reduction will hold an Awareness Fair at

Lake Park, between Lake and Main streets at 11th Street. Vendors and

children’s activities coordinate fun with fundraising to restore and

save small class sizes in the Huntington Beach City School District.

A native plant sale and butterfly event will be hosted by the

Friends of the Shipley Nature Center. Drought-tolerant plants and

plants that attract butterflies and birds will be sold from 9 a.m. to

3 p.m. Butterfly experts will show eggs, caterpillars and butterfly

chrysalis from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The nature center is in

Huntington Beach Adult School will host the “Protector del Aqua”

series with the Municipal Water District of Orange County. The series

will teach basic landscaping, hardscaping and patio design concepts

geared to creating greater water efficiency in the home. The class

will be taught from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays through April 3

Huntington Dog Beach will need volunteers to help clean the

beach. Free quarters for parking, cleaning supplies and pizza will be

provided. The cleanup will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Volunteers will meet at the white canopy near Tower 24. The closest

parking will be north of Goldenwest Street and south of Seapoint

The SOS Investment Club meets regularly on the second Monday of

each month and is seeking new members interested in studying

Chapter of the National Assn. of the Physically Handicapped

provides disabled children and adults the opportunity to make their

lives become more vital to the community through providing

informative newsletters four times a year from National Headquarters.

The Clara Barton chapter

of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will
