The CIF Southern Section winter playoffs begin in full force this

The action continues today, Friday and Saturday with first- and

Thirteen prep teams have received postseason bids.

Today in girls’ water polo at 3:15 p.m., Huntington Beach, the

third-place team out of the Sunset League, travels to Long Beach

Wilson for a first-round Division I match.

The Bruins are champions of the Moore League.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m., Edison and Marina will open play in the

Division I-A girls’ basketball playoffs, while Ocean View begins play

in Division III-AA.

Glenn High, the No. 4 team out of the Suburban League.

Edison, co-champion along with Esperanza of the Sunset League, is

at home to take on Pasadena.

The Bulldogs are the No. 3 team from the Pacific League.

“We don’t know too much about Pasadena, other than they are a good

team,” Edison Coach Corey Kelly said. “We’re playing well as we enter

the playoffs. The girls seem to be very focused and we will take this

tournament one game at a time.”

Marina, meanwhile, will carry the Sunset League’s No. 3 entry into

its first-round game at Pacific View League champion Oxnard.

First-round games in the boys soccer playoffs will be played

Friday at 3 p.m.

Montgomery in a Division I match.

hosts La Mirada, the No. 2 team from the Suburban League.

Friday at 7:30 p.m., two local teams begin play in the boys

basketball playoffs.

Golden West League champion Ocean View will host the winner of

Wednesday’s first-round game between Alemany and Mountain View in a

Division III-AA game.

Ocean View had received a first-round bye and automatically

advanced to the second-round.

The Seahawks are the division’s No. 2 seed, behind top-ranked

Santa Margarita.

Marina, the No. 3 entry from the Sunset League, goes on the road

to face San Antonio League runner-up West Covina in a Division I-A

League.

Huntington played at La Mirada, the No. 4 team out of the Suburban

League.

The Chargers and Oilers were two of 13 teams to receive Division

II-AA at-large bids.

Three local hopefuls begin their quests for a CIF championship

Saturday when first-round games in girls soccer playoffs commence at
