Lakers finish in first place
The regular season for the girls fifth- and sixth-grade Newport-Mesa
National Junior Basketball league wrapped up with the first-place
Lakers defeating the Shock, 25-22.
The Lakers were led by Lindsay Anderson’s 14 points, followed by
10 points from LiAnn Sarisuk.
Ellie Nadal kept the Shock close with three three-pointers and 14
points.
Silvie Reynolds helped on the boards while Saylor Schroff added
strong defense.
In other games:
* Pirates 16, Globetrotters 15:
Kelsey Carrido and Allie Moskovits paced the Pirates with six
points each while Duran Sharp led the Globetrotters with eight
points.
* Wildcats 37, Mavericks 29:
Kathleen Etuale tallied 23 points while Kelly Heenan added 12 for
the second-place Wildcats.
Laura Martinez led the Mavericks with 15 points.
The all-star teams were announced in both fifth- and sixth-grades:
The fifth-grade team includes: Nadal, Sharp, Martinez, Kylee
Malone, Kassie Stratton, Schroff, Moskovits, Kelsey Woo, Alex Aiello
and Samantha Aiello.
The sixth-grade team features: Etuale, Anderson, Kadee Malone,
Heenan, Sarisuk, Carrido, Camile Krahe, Megan Wilson, Cynthia
Waterman and Emily Rosales.
Tournament play continues against other Orange County teams.
