GREER WYLDER

The Paper House just moved from 31st Street to a larger and improved

location. It’s now at 149 Riverside Ave., next to C’est Si Bon and

the post office. With the expansion, it now has more room for

gift-wrapping, balloons, ribbons, scrap-booking materials and an

on-site calligraphy service. It still has a wonderful selection of

specialty boutique items, including unique invitations, stationery

and greeting cards. There are also darling baby accessories by My

Vintage Baby, Little Giraffe and Woof and Poof. The helpful staff

offers design ideas for invitations and with selecting shower gifts.

Open daily. Call (949) 515-5177.

DONATIONS NEEDED

The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is in need of quality

new or pre-owned donations. The shop will accept men’s and women’s

clothing, jewelry, shoes, purses, belts, furniture and home

accessories. All items should be clean and in good repair. It’s also

gearing up for a great 50% off sale on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. The shop is at 2600 E. Coast Hwy. in Corona del Mar. Call

(949) 640-4777.

UPSCALE, NOT SNOBBY

The Wine Gallery has a relaxed old world atmosphere, and despite

its upscale location, it’s not a snobby shop. Personalized service is

important to co-owner Jeff Schroeder, who insists that customers

always buy from an owner. Schroeder says he’s tasted everything in

the store, and constantly travels throughout California to meet with

wine makers to select the best wines. Wines that are of good value,

hard to find and unique are its specialty. His favorite wines are

from Barnett Vineyard, Vineyard and Peter Michael. Most wines are

from small production wineries in California, but it carries wines

from all over the world. A wine tasting bar is located upstairs,

large groups go downstairs. The Wine Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to

8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. It’s at 2411 E.

Coast Highway, Suite 250 in Corona del Mar. Call (949) 675-3410 or

WEARING WHITE

When Marlis Porter and Jeannine Penta opened The White Dress, a

bridal store, they set out to offer couture wedding gowns that you

can’t find anywhere else in Southern California. They searched for

gowns in San Francisco, Chicago and New York and now carry designer

gowns from Bonaparte N.Y. by Junko, Elizabeth Fillmore, Robert Danes,

Reva, Mivasagar, Model Novias, Palazzo and Wearkstatt. Gowns are

priced from $1,700 to $6,600. All are samples. Each dress is

custom-fitted by the designer. Fabulous bridesmaid dresses are

designed by Lynn Lugo. Local custom jeweler Jayson Hanson, who’s

popular in certain circles for his platinum and diamond designs, has

beautiful pieces here. Hanson can even convert a tiara into a

necklace. Local jewelry artist Gorjana is featured too. There are

FleurGemme custom floral evening bags for weddings and special

occasions, featured in InStyle and Town & Country magazines. The

White Dress is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10

a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It’s at 2853 E. Coast Hwy. in Corona del

Mar. For information or appointments, call (949) 723-0121.

HEALTH PLUS

The Health Emporium is more than just an organic market -- it’s

also an organic grill, cafe, bakery, juice bar, deli and catering

house. Since the 1940s, this location has housed a market; owner Seth

Siegal radically improved the building in 1996, giving it an upscale,

retro look. All produce is certified organic, fresh fish and meats

are USDA-approved, stimulant-, hormone-, antibiotic- and

nitrate-free. There’s a big selection of vitamins, herbs, sports

nutrition, homeopathy and natural cosmetics. The grill’s two chefs

come from the Culinary Institute in New York, and there’s a true

master French baker. Customers love the deli’s delicious maple pecan

cookies, turkey and chicken meatloaf, gourmet salads, chocolate

eclairs and double chocolate cake. The grill serves breakfast, lunch

and dinner daily and is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. It’s at 3347 E.

Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. Call (949) 673-2244.

COUNTRY ADORNMENT

Since the owner’s home of Cottage Corona del Mar was featured on

the cover of the fall 2002 issue of “Country Decorating Ideas,”

people from all over the country have sought out this store for

country furnishings. There’s a big selection of distressed white

antique and new furniture and accessories. Furnishings are so popular

that they fly out the door. Merchandise arrives daily. Owner Melinda

Kent also does custom floor and wall artwork. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday to Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The home is at 2411 E.

Coast Highway, Suite 200 in Corona del Mar. Call (949) 566-9339.
