OCC’s Tucker to be honored

Dick Tucker, a former Orange Coast College football coach, has been

inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches

Association Hall of Fame.

He will be honored during an induction ceremony, March 20 at the

Elks Club in Visalia.

The association’s Hall of Fame has a room at the Elks Club devoted

to honorees and also includes plaques, pictures and names of Hall of

Fame members.

Tucker coached the Pirates from 1962 to 1985.

In his second year of coaching the Bucs, Tucker guided OCC to an

undefeated season and a national championship, capped by a 21-0

victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; in the Junior Rose Bowl.

Tucker, who now lives in Newport Beach’s Back Bay, coached the

Pirates to another undefeated season in 1975.

Tucker’s teams were also known to bring in crowds of up to 10,000

to Orange Coast College, when California community college football

was in its heyday.
