An armed robber escaped with $1,100 in cash after a stick-up at a

supermarket on Saturday.

Police said at about 7:40 p.m. the robber approached a cashier and

took money from two registers in the Pavilions in the 600 block of

North Coast Highway.

The robber is described as a white man with a bushy mustache,

brown and gray hair and a pale complexion. Police said he is between

50- and 60-years-old, has a thin build and is between 5-foot-7 and

5-foot-9. At the time of the robbery, he reportedly wore a blue or a

black beanie, a dark blue jacket with a hood, blue jeans and a dark

hood.

No getaway car was seen. The robber was last seen running out the

store’s exit toward North Coast Highway, Sgt. Darin Lenyi said.

The suspect’s description is similar to that of a man wanted for a

murder that occurred during a holdup at a Huntington Beach 99 Cents

Only Store in January. However, officers in Laguna Beach and

Huntington Beach said they are not investigating the crimes as being

committed by the same man.

There were no injuries or confrontations reported in the

supermarket robbery, aside from the theft itself. The robber did not

fire his weapon, which police described as a chrome-plated handgun.

“No one resisted, they complied with his demands, which we

recommend people do,” Lenyi said.

Police are investigating the store’s surveillance tape. Anyone

with information on the robbery may call Det. Paul Litchenberg at

(949) 497-0758. Calls can be made anonymously to (949) 497-0375.
