Three Tars recognized

Newport Harbor High senior Jillianne Whitfield, who led the Sailors

to their first CIF Southern Section girls basketball playoff win

since 1997, has earned first-team All-Sea View League honors for a

third straight season.

Whitfield, who averaged 9.9 points against league competition, is

joined on the first team by senior teammate Victoria Swigart.

Newport Harbor junior Vanessa Miller is a second-team pick by the

league’s coaches.

Swigart, a second-team all-league honoree as a junior, averaged

9.7 points in league, while Miller averaged 10 points against Sea

View foes.

The Sailors finished 4-6 in league, but were 14-13 overall,

including a 48-46 CIF Division II-AA first-round triumph over

University.

Woodbridge senior Katie Nichols and Aliso Niguel senior Allison

Scurich share Player of the Year honors.

The first team also includes Woodbridge sophomores Jacqueline

Erickson and Bridgett Reyes, Irvine senior Brittany Crawford,

Foothill senior Jenna Horton and Aliso Niguel sophomore Heidi Larson.
