HB Breakers go 5-0 to win tourney title

The HB Breakers, a local 12-and-under baseball team, captured the

title of the Leap Year Classic.

The Breakers went 5-0 in the tournament and outscored their

opponents, 39-12.

During the tournament, the Breakers received solid pitching from

Kyle Ball, Cody Morad, Kyle Boswell, Sean Vogel, Josh Lesinski and

Tyler Buckles.

As a team, they batted .361 and had an on-base percentage of .460.

The Breakers opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over the South

Pasadena Cobras, and a 3-1 win over the OC Cougars.

Boswell hit a home run and Chris Lien and Sean Guite each had an

RBI in the win over South Pasadena.

Lesinski hit a two-run double in the win over the OC Cougars.

In the final day of the tournament, the Breakers posted three

victories: a 9-1 mercy rule decision over the Spikers, a

come-from-behind 9-4 semifinal win over the Cyclones and a 9-5 win

over the Irvine Diamondbacks in the championship game.

Brandon Adams had two RBI, Jimmy Madden had an RBI and Tony

Giovenetti hit a triple against the Spikers.

The Breakers trailed the Cyclones, 4-0, before rallying to win.

Boswell and Lesinski each had an RBI single to ignite the comeback,

Giovenetti hit an RBI triple, Lien, Vogel and Guite each had an RBI

single and Boswell later came up with a two-RBI double.

Morad pitched the final three innings and didn’t allow a run.

In the championship game, the Breakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in

the top of the first.

Aaron Ochoa singled, Boswell and Guite each had an RBI groundout

and Lesinski tripled home two runs during the inning.

After Irvine came back to tie the score at 4-4, Vogel singled home

Lesinski for what turned out to be the winning run.

Madden and Morad each had an RBI double and Lien hit a two-RBI

double, all in the fifth inning, to put the Breakers in control.
