Estancia boys win opener

Jason Johnston won four events and C.J. Buchmann doubled, leading

Estancia High to an 86-39 season-opening victory over Golden West

League host Ocean View in boys track and field action Thursday.

Elise Carroll doubled and contributed to a 400-meter relay

victory, but the Estancia girls lost, 65-59.

Johnston won the 110 high hurdles (16.2), 300 intermediate hurdles

(44.3), long jump (19 feet, 8 inches) and triple jump (39-3).

Buchmann took first in the 800 (2:16.3) and 1,600 (5:05.9). The

Estancia boys won all but two events, as Nick Koreerat (100 in 11.8),

Alex Cahuantzi (3,200, 11:16.7), Mike Courtney (shot put, 39-8) and

Matt Kellogg (discus, 96-11) notched wins.

Jeannette Abrego (3,200, 13:16), Nicole Wilson (100 hurdles, 19.6)

and Sage O’Toole (high jump, 4-6) also won. Carroll won the 200

(29.2) and 400 (1:06.5).

Mustang girls fall

* The Costa Mesa girls track and field team lost its season

opener, 67-60, to host Saddleback.

The Costa Mesa boys lost, 91-34, yet Qualic Vargas doubled,

winning the shot put and discus, and Brandon Aleson won the triple

jump.

On the girls side, Christine Bjelland (1,600 in 5:40.3), Kyle

Flores (3,200, 12:44.3), Vicky Pham (100 hurdles, 18.6), Jasmin Day

(4-4 high jump) and Cassey Brick (long jump, 15-11) earned wins.
