Collision is caused by speed and fog

A collision with a guard rail shut down the southbound fast lane

on North Coast Highway for 40 minutes Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported at 5:50 a.m., according to the Highway

Patrol.

No one was injured in the one-car crash, Highway Patrol Officer

Chris Goodwin said.

The lane was shut down after a Mazda 626 driven by 20-year-old

Costa Mesa resident James Yong Jung collided with the guard rail in

the center of North Cost Highway near El Morro Elementary School.

Jung’s car was blocking traffic, and a tow truck was needed before

traffic could pass, Goodwin said.

No citation was issued to Jung, though he was found at fault in

the accident. Goodwin said the accident was the result of Jung’s

driving too fast in the fog.

“It was foggy, and he was going at the normal speed of 50 mph ...

and didn’t see the curve and kept going straight,” he said.
