Arraignment delayed again for man arrested in fatal accident

The arraignment for a Costa Mesa man arrested in connection with a

fatal accident outside the Pierce Street Annex Bar has been continued

for the second time.

Costa Mesa police arrested Pawel Stanislaw Wiater, 22, on March 5

on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the

influence. Wiater’s Mitsubishi Eclipse allegedly struck two

pedestrians as they were crossing the street near the popular 17th

Street bar.

Andre Felipe De Oliveira Braga, 31, died at the scene, and

25-year-old John Garazulis was critically injured in the accident.

Wiater’s March 9 arraignment was continued after a language

barrier stalled the proceeding. Wiater speaks Polish.

On Friday, his case was again continued to April 16 to allow more time for the discovery process. He is being held on $100,000 bail and faces up to 17 years in jail.

Corona del Mar freeways.

At the end of the chase, Olson pulled his car into a parking lot

outside a Campus Drive office building and ran inside. He surrendered

a short time later.

He is being held on $25,000 bail.
