Newport grocery store is on the road again

The Pavilions grocery store in Newport Coast resumed delivery

service on Monday, which was halted during the five-month lockout and

strike by the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

The store showed its appreciation of customers by giving them

flowers and chocolates on the first day of deliveries, and free

delivery is offered on orders of $100 or more through April 11.

* After 20 years at the helm of the local GOP party, Orange County

Republican Chairman Tom Fuentes announced Monday he will retire next

month. He recommended attorney and former Assemblyman Scott Baugh as

his successor. Supporters credit Fuentes with building party

membership to make the group this state’s most Republican county,

while critics say his controlling leadership style alienated some

elements of the party. County Republican Central Committee members

will meet April 19 to choose his successor.
