Deadline set for ‘Art That’s Small’

Laguna Beach’s “Art That’s Small at City Hall,” has a deadline of

9:30 to 11 a.m. for the artwork, with application and fee to be

delivered to the city’s council chambers at 505 Forest Ave.

A fee of $15 will be charged with one entry allowed per person.

Artwork must be no larger than 12 inches along any edge, including

the frame, and 3 inches in depth. Artwork may include oil, acrylic,

watercolor, photography, drawing, mixed media and relief. It must be

dry and suitably framed and secure and wired for wall hanging.

Entries will be accepted from residents of Orange County with

proof required, and applicants must be 18 or older. All entries must

be original and have been executed in the past two years.

First place receives $350, second place $200, third place $50 and

a City Hall choice voted by city employees $50.

There will be a reception and awards ceremony at City Hall from 5

to 6 p.m. April 1. The exhibit will run through the month and the

work needs to be picked up from 9 a.m. to noon or a fine of $10 will

be assessed.

‘Animal Chemistry’ to benefit shelter

Banking on Art will present “Animal Chemistry” with an opening

reception from 4 to 6 p.m. April 1. The exhibit will feature

everything from ants to zebras created by more than 10 professional

Laguna artists, who are compassionate about animals. The artists have

put the exhibit together as a fundraiser for the Laguna Beach Animal

Shelter and Pet Responsibility Committee.

The exhibit will focus on animal life and hopes to increase

awareness of the good works the shelter does for animals in need. To

attend the event, a donation of any size is required. “Animal

Chemistry” will be on exhibit through April 30 at Wells Fargo Bank at

260 Ocean Ave. Donations can be made in care of the Laguna Beach

LAM to hold gently used book sale

Laguna Art Museum’s April 1 library book sale is back with amazing

deals on gently used art books. An array of books will be available

for purchase from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in conjunction with the First

Thursday Art Walk. Proceeds of the sale will benefit the museum

library, according to Carole Reynolds, the Museum’s librarian.

Laguna Art Museum’s library has one of the largest collections of

books on California art and art history in the California. Laguna Art

Annual Art Studio Tour set

The Sawdust will present the 13th annual Art Studio Tour April 3

and 4. Tour-goers will get a glimpse into the private studios of more

than 50 of Laguna Beach’s artists.

Transportation to and from the studios and catered receptions at

the end of each day of touring are included in the ticket price.

One-day tickets are $45; weekend passes are $65. Call the Sawdust at

Laguna College ‘Best of the Best’ displayed

Laguna College of Art and Design will have its annual Juried

Student Art Exhibition 2004 from April 4 to May 3 with an artist

reception 6 to 8 p.m. on April 8. “The Best of the Best of the Best”

is the college’s juried exhibition of original artwork by the

students on the pastoral campus at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

The exhibit will offer an in-depth look at the college’s students

and work with 98 pieces of original artwork created at each level

from freshman to senior. The major fields of art and design the

college teaches -- drawing and painting, illustration, graphic

design, animation and sculpture -- will be represented.

Any of the students can submit work, which is then juried

collectively by the faculty.

The college’s Ettinger Gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays;

Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibits are free to the public with free

[seven-degrees] will have an opening art reception for the “Form,

Fragment and Folly,” show from 6 to 9 p.m. during First Thursday Art

Walk. Art, costumes, films and music create a carnival atmosphere.

ZUMA presents ‘Dirty Divas’ exhibit

ZUMA Press of Laguna Beach will open its exhibit “Dirty Divas ...

The Celebrity Exhibitionists,” at 6 p.m. April 1 at Ocean Avenue

Brewery, 237 Ocean Ave.

The show will feature off-guard, some would say un-flattering or

shocking, prints of the hottest Hollywood stars photographed by the

industry’s top entertainment shooters. ZUMA boasts the largest movie

stills collection in a digital archive that dates back to the 1800s.

The company is an editorial picture agency and wire service that

represents more than 600 photographers around the world with an

archive of 3-million images. They have a digital archive that grows

by around 1,000 images per day, representing 600 -plus independent

photographers with a network that spans the globe.

Chamber music set for First Sundays

First Sundays at Laguna College will offer a live chamber music

concert and art exhibit from 2 to 4:30 p.m. April 4.

Laguna Beach Live! presents the concert each month. The classical

music concert will be performed by the Deodara Quartet -- violinists

Agnes Gottschewski and Christine Frank, violist John Scanlon and

cellist Richard Treat, performing works including Ludwig Van

Beethoven’s “String Quartet in A major, OP. 18 #5 -- Allegro,

Menuetto, Andante cantabile, Allegro” and Alexander Borodin’s “String

Quartet #2 in D major -- Allegro moderato, Scherzo, Nocturne,

Finale.”
