benefit children’s home

Your child is lucky. Your child is sweet. Your child has so many

toys they are beginning to flow out of her room, into the hall, down

the stairs and into the kitchen.

Your child could stand to lose a few My Little Ponies and Rescue

Heroes. And it’s a sacrifice you are willing to make.

Take those gently used, barely used -- there’s not enough time in

the world to use all those -- toys to Skosh Monahan’s pub and the

restaurant will donate them to Orangewood Children’s Home.

During the Lenten season, Skosh’s is collecting new and used toys,

video games, books, puzzles, clothing and grooming items today

through April 9. The toys will be delivered April 10 -- just in time

for Easter.

Skosh Monahan’s is on the corner of Newport Boulevard and 20th

Street in Costa Mesa and is open at 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday

and 11 a.m. on Sundays. For more information, call (949) 548-0099.

John Wayne sees record increase in passengers

John Wayne Airport set a record in February as the number of

passengers using the airport was up 16.6% from February 2003 with

673,627 travelers passed through the Thomas F. Riley Terminal last

month.

Total takeoffs and landings also increased in February: Last

month’s 27,357 take-offs and landings represent a 5.7% increase from

the same time last year. Among those flights, commercial flights were

up 8.1% and commuter carrier flights were up 52.3%, mainly do to

Atlantic Southeast Airlines/Delta Connections beginning service at

the airport in September.

Book club looks at ‘Peace Like a River’

The Manuscripts book discussion group of the Newport Beach Central

Library will discuss “Peace Like a River” by Leif Enger -- a family

story told through the eyes of an 11-year-old asthmatic boy.

The discussion will take place from 9:15 to 11 a.m. April 14 in

the Friends Meeting Room of the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000

Avocado Ave. Upcoming book discussions include “River Town: Two Years

on the Yangtze” on May 12 and “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight” on
