Boys chorus jogs its budget to success

The All-American Boys Chorus ran a total of 3,000 laps in its 22nd

annual Jog-a-Thon fundraising event on Saturday.

More than 100 boys took part in the event, which is the nonprofit

organization’s largest annual fundraiser. Through the Jog-A-Thon, at

the Davis Elementary School track in Costa Mesa, they were able to

raise more than $75,000 to support the chorus’ operating budget for

the year.

The funds raised provide the chorus with music and resources,

vocal training and other expenses such as busses to various

performances and the production costs of community productions.

The All-American Boys Chorus is a nonprofit organization serving

boys eight to 15. It was founded in 1970 and has had artistic

collaborations with Disney, Opera Pacific, the Pacific Symphony

Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the William

Hall Master Chorale.

New neuter option to be offered in Costa Mesa

A new, quick way to neuter puppies will be offered in Costa Mesa

in April. Neutersol, the FDA-approved injection for puppies three to

10 months old will be available at the Vet Care mobile clinics, which

will be in Costa Mesa on April 17 and 25. The puppy is able to walk

immediately afterward. A procedure to place a microchip under a

puppy’s skin is also available, in case the pet gets lost and ends up

in a shelter. The lifetime microchip identification makes it easy for

the shelter to return the dog to its owner.

The clinics will be held at K-Mart, 2200 Harbor Blvd., from 12:30

to 2:30 p.m. on April 17 and at Pets Central, 2300 Harbor Blvd., from

3:30 to 5 p.m. on April 25. They also include pet vaccinations,

exams, tests and pet care products for dogs and cats.

Advance appointments for Neutersol are recommended. To make an

appointment, call (800) 988-8387.

Two developments receive design awards

The Costa Mesa Planning Commission honored two residential

developments in Costa Mesa with design awards on March 8.

The Providence Park Model Homes, developed by Standard Pacific

Homes, are on the Segerstrom Home Ranch project. Planning Commission

Chairman Bruce Garlich nominated the project, noting, “the variations

in European architecture themes coupled with innovative drive and

garage treatments and old-fashioned ‘front porch’ amenities make

these homes a pleasant addition to Costa Mesa’s housing stock.”

The Elden Place Single-Family Homes, developed by Infinity Homes

CMI, Inc., are at 2450 Elden Ave. They were nominated by commission

member Eric Bever, who said, “the project exhibits excellence in

design and site planning, creating an aesthetically pleasing and

hospitable neighborhood that enhances the existing neighborhood and

sets a good example for future developments.”

The Design Awards Program was established in August 2002 to

provide public recognition of exceptional pubic and private projects

that illustrate excellence in community planning and design.
