Pirates cover all bases in win

The pitching of Tony Giovinetti and Billy Keller helped propel the

Pirates past the Angels, 11-1, in Seaview Little League Majors

Division play.

Giovinetti threw four innings of no-hit ball and Keller closed on

the mound.

While the duo combined to strike out 10 and give up just three

hits, they received strong support from a potent offense.

Jay Rowerdink started things with an RBI single in the first

inning, and it continued when every Pirate batter in the second and

third innings reached base safely.

The Angels scored their lone run in the fifth behind base hits by

Justin Wood and Karson Hayden.

Kyle Ball’s play at shortstop led the Halos on defense.

Ball also pitched the final two innings and recorded five

strikeouts.

In Seaview Minor A Division play:

Cubs 11, Angels 9

Brooke Thomas’ home run over the centerfield fence was the first

of the season in the division and capped her three-hit, four-RBI

performance.

Nick Plunkett and Matt Thiede each doubled among two hits,

starting pitcher Chase Leamer struck out five and reliever Dillon

Brown also notched five strikeouts.

Eric Sickle, coming back from an injury, returned to the Angel’s

lineup to produce a single.

Max Mayer finished with five strikeouts.

Royals 10, Dodgers 3

Brandon Trulli doubled off the game’s first pitch, sending the

Royals on their way toward victory.

Trulli finished with two singles, Connor Ahern had a two-RBI

double and singled, Steven Malone had a two-RBI double and Perry

Clitheroe doubled.

Clitheroe also got the pitching win by striking out six in four

innings of work.

Troy Baljeu and Zach Bauer each doubled for the Dodgers.

Marlins 10, A’s 9

Scott Orel’s solid all-around performance included a double and

single on offense and striking out seven to record the pitching win

for the Marlins.

Wes Kobel knocked in three runs with a double for the Marlins.

Kyle Curtis, Brandon Hastings and Grant Murchison each had two

hits for the A’s.

At Ocean View Little League:

Majors Division

Dodgers 3, Angels 1

The Dodgers recorded their first win of the season at the expense

of the previously unbeaten Angels.

Kyle Breedlove held the Halos to a single hit while striking out

eight in six innings pitched. Joel Richardson had six unassisted outs

at his first base position.

Minor A Division

Reds 5, Cubs 4

The Reds mixed consistent pitching and clutch hitting to get past

the Cubs.

Drew Stanfield pitched four innings and struck out four without

allowing a walk for the Reds, who rolled to a 4-1 lead after one inning of play.

Jake Arledge had two hits and scored twice, Jordan Adnams had a

double among two hits and Alec Villalobos had an RBI single.

Dallas West had a pair of singles and scored two runs for the

Cubs, who rallied for two runs in the final inning to pull within a

run, only to have the rally squelched when Dane Perkins struck out

the final Cubs batter.

Minor B Division

Pirates 11, Cubs 8

The Pirates raced to an 11-2 lead before the Cubs rallied with six

late runs.

Matteo Simmington had three hits and two RBIs and Quint Hall had

an RBI single for the Cubs.

At Huntington Valley Little League:

Majors Division

A’s 4, Braves 3

Richard Varalla earned the pitching win as the A’s shaded the

Braves.

Dodgers 2, Pirates 0

The Dodgers recorded the shutout behind the pitching of Brad

Schultz.

Minor A Division

Marlins 12, Pirates 5

J.T. Doran and Nick Gates combined on the mound to defeat the

Pirates.

Dodgers 9, Padres 4

The pitching win went to Jake Kiser.

Padres 4, Angels 3

Hayden Polhamus pitched the Padres past the Angels.
