Laguna breaks even at Dos Pueblos invite

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team ventured up to Santa

Barbara County this weekend to compete at the 29th annual Dos Pueblos

Invitational at UC Santa Barbara.

Laguna split four matches in pool play.

The Breakers defeated host Dos Pueblos, 25-21, 25-13, and beat

Highland for a second time this year, 25-22, 25-17.

The two losses came to Los Gatos, 19-25, 18-25, and Royal, 24-26,

16-25.

Trey Chapel had seven kills, and Luke Morris and Chris Hoffman

each had seven digs in the win over Dos Pueblos.

Chapel also a team-leading seven kills against Highland; Morris

had six kills and seven digs and Talan Torriero had eight digs in the

match.

In the loss to Royal, Morris had 11 digs.

In four tournament games, Trey Chapel finished with 23 kills and

Morris and Torriero each had 15 kills.

Chapel and Torriero led Laguna in serving with six aces each, and

Clark Olson had five aces.

Morris led Laguna in digs with 32, Torriero had 21 and Chapel and Hoffman each had 15 digs.

Laguna returns to Pacific Coast League play tonight, hosting

Tesoro at 6.

In boys’ tennis, Laguna defeated host Aliso Niguel, 10-8, in a

nonleague match played Monday.

The Breakers’ Kyle Paxson and Dieter Schmitz swept at No. 1

doubles.

Laguna dropped a 17-1 PCL match to Northwood. Eric Tran scored the

only point for the Breakers at No. 1 singles.

In track and field action, Laguna’s boys fell to host Corona del

Mar, 107-18, and the girls’ team lost to the Sea Kings, 115-14.

In softball play, Laguna dropped a nonleague game to host Santa

Ana, 2-0, Monday.

In swimming, Laguna’s boys lost to Corona del Mar, 124-41, and the

girls’ team fell to the Sea Kings, 89-69.

In boys’ golf, Laguna forfeited its Pacific Coast League match to

Northwood Monday.
