American Legion’s offense erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning

en route to a 10-3 victory over VFW in Laguna Beach Little League

Majors Division play at Riddle Field.

VFW had taken an early, 2-1 lead, behind an RBI single by Logan

Schoembs in the second inning and Clayton Steel’s solo homer in the

fourth.

American Legion had scored a run in the bottom of the third behind

base hits by Alex Gromet, Morgan Curry and Alec Burk, then broke the

game open by scoring nine runs in the fourth.

Sean Pigden doubled and Bryn Jones and Arman Terrell singled for

RBI’s, and Alec Burk came through with a double to cap the big

inning.

Jeff Kimbrogh singled in a run for VFW in the sixth.

American Legion’s Casey Miller struck out five in three innings

and was aided by the defense of Beau Hutson, who threw out a runner

attempting to steel second base.

Hutson, Travis Woloson, and Austin Paxson closed out the victory

for American Legion by taking turns on the mound over the final three

innings.

Zach Reigler pitched three innings for VFW.

In other Majors action:

Sportsworld 4, VFW 0

Steve Contursi struck out seven and gave up just two hits in a

complete game victory for Sportsworld.

VFW’s hits were singles by Clay Steel and Jake Glazer.

Travis Sampson’s hit up the middle scored Sportsworld’s first run

and he later scored on a sacrifice by Ryan Raffo.

Andrew Levin and Paul Salomon would score on fielding errors.

Zack Reigler threw three solid innings for VFW.

Sportsworld 12, Hobie 6

Travis Sampson was a perfect four for four with an RBI and

Sportsworld overcame a 6-4 deficit by scoring six runs in the top of

the fifth inning.

Brian Vail had two hits and two RBIs, Kellen Lindley had a two-run

single and RBI single and Andrew Levin had an RBI for Sportsworld.

Ryan Raffo struck out seven for the winners.

Rex Strombotne belted a two-run double and Austin Hilleman had an

RBI for Hobie.

Rotary 11, American Legion 1

Chris Lavery hit a towering home run over the left field fence and

also hit a pair of doubles as unbeaten Rotary pounced on American

Legion.

Michael Maxsenti, Will Bonsey, Raphael Vickers and Brett

Linkletter each contributed two hits each to power Rotary’s offensive

attack.

Lavery hit is home run in the first inning, as Rotary went on to

take a 4-0 lead.

Vickers and Bonsey shared pitching duties.

Vickers pitched three shutout innings and allowed hits to Travis

Woloson and Beau Hutson. He struck out four and received strong

defensive support from infielders Bonsey, Mike Rubel and Michael

Hyden.

Alek Burk singled an Casey Miller had the lone RBI for American

Legion in the fourth inning.

American Legion 11, Sportsworld 8 American Legion found itself in an 8-1 hole but staged a monstrous

rally to defeat Sportsworld.

American Legion held a 1-0 lead through two innings, but

Sportsworld busted out big-time in the top of the third inning.

Hits by Wyatt Innins and Kellen Lindley, coupled with fielding

errors by American Legion, led to eight runs and an 8-1 lead for

Sportsworld.

But American Legion chipped away at that seven-run deficit.

They came back with four runs in the bottom of the third, using

hits by Alek Burk and Sean Pigden and a key, two-RBI single by Casey

Miller, to make it an 8-5 game.

In the bottom of the fourth, American Legion scored four more runs

behind hits by Alex Innotti, Pigden and Burk, to take a 9-8 lead.

Burk led American Legion with a three hit performance.

Ryan Raffo pitched 3 strong innings for Sportsworld with four

strike outs, and Travis Woloson had a triple and struck out six in

three innings on the mound.

Sportsworld 11, Dodgers 3

A 10-run second inning allowed Sportsworld to comeback from a 3-0

deficit against San Juan Capistrano.

Ryan Raffo struck out six and allowed just one hit in three

innings and Paul Salomon and Steve Contursi combined to allow one

additional hit in relief work for Sportsworld.

Rotary 8, Angels 2

Will Bonsey, Raphael Vickers and Michael Maxsenti combined to toss

a one-hitter at San Juan Capistrano.

The pitching trio registered 17 strikeouts in the six innings

contest.

Maxsenti also led the Rotary offense with two singles.

Bonsey, Mike Rubel, Chris Lavery, Brett Linkletter and Alex

Wheeler each singled.

Rotary 9, FireFighters 3

Chris Lavery had three hits to lead a potent Rotary attack in its

win over the FireFighters.

Mike Rubel, Michael Hyden and Drew Wheeler, who doubled, each

added two hits, and Will Bonsey doubled.

Rotary’s pitching rotation of Raphael Vickers, Bonsey and Michael

Maxsenti combined to limit the FireFighters to four hits.

The threesome struck out nine.

Spencer Fredenrich and Brennan Mulvaney each had an RBI single,

Adam Selevan and Jack Clark each singled for the FireFighters.
