Yankees slip past Athletics

The Yankees earned a 6-5 victory over the A’s in Newport Harbor

Baseball Association Mustang Division action.

Tyler Kiehnle, Christopher Sheppard and Jake Stowell each

delivered hits to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning.

Kiehnle, Sheppard and Nicolas Seargent held the A’s in check with

strong pitching performances.

The A’s were lead by solid pitching from Blake Pender, Conner

Sweeney and Sergio Valenzuela.

In other Mustang action:

* Cubs 14, Dodgers 7:

The Cubs smacked four triples, including two by Patrick

Overstreet, to spark their offense. Blake Norton and Max Richley each

had one triple.

Dash Johnson had an inside-the-park home run and added three

strikeouts in relief. He also caught a foul ball for the second out

of the ninth.

Richley threw to Jake Barber at second to end the game.

Richley fanned six of the seven batters he faced in two innings.

T.K. McWhertor struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Ryan Fowler, Chandler Daily and Jack Paal all tallied their first

hits of the season.

* Giants 10, Cardinals 4: The Giants produced two five-run innings and got solid pitching to

down the Cardinals March 13.

Christian Ochoa pitched well for two innings, followed by strong

efforts from Ryan Schroth and Jake Hall.

Tynan Yanaga retired all three batters he faced in the sixth.

Ian Baugh (triple), Wyatt Muller, Ochoa, Schroth, Hall and Yanaga

led the offense.

William Fuchs, Max Newsom and Kyle Benter led the Giants’ defense.

* Angels 11, Padres 4:

Zack Vayda singled, tripled and tallied two RBIs to lead the

Angels to the victory.

Jason Wooding, Brice Manning, Chris Okey and Ryan Davis each added

singles while Nick Vieria (double) and Dalton Jensen (triple) showed

some power.

Jordan Desguin singled and tripled for the Padres while Addison

MacLaren singled and scored a run.

Manning, Vieria, Wooding and Spencer O’Hara limited the Padres to

three hits and combined for eight strikeouts.

Desguin countered with five strikeouts in eight batters faced

through two innings.

In Pinto National play:

* Leadoff hitter Nathan Chaness had two singles and scored a run

for the Rockies against the Phillies on Saturday,

. Junior Najera reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Shaun Vetrovec and Bryan Shollin pitched well for the Rockies.

Adam Josephson and Michael Reo added great plays in the field.

Danny Willett, Joshua Eakin, Parker Monroe and Davis Verheyen all

played well for the Rockies.

* Vetrovec tripled and reached base four times to lead the Rockies

against the Pirates March 20.

Josephson added a run-scoring single and Najera scored two runs.

Shollin and Willett each had two strikeouts.

Reo, Eakin, Monroe and Verheyen all played well.

* Sean Perrier doubled in two runs for the Padres against the

Phillies March 13.

Brandt Bucher added a triple in the fifth inning while Grant Moore

added an RBI single.

Shane MacGilfrey pitched the first two innings and threw to first

baseman Jake Hexberg for an out.

* The Rockies’ offense produced against the Cardinals in a game

March 13.

Leadoff hitter Chaness reached base four times and scored twice

while Reo singled in two runs. Eakin and Josephson each scored two

runs.

Najera and Willett each pitched well for the Rockies and Shollin

reached base twice after being hit by a pitch.

Vetrovec made a double play at first to end the game.

In Shetland National action:

* The Brewers, led by Steven Faulconer, Jeremiah Sheldon, Jack

Rapillo and Andrew Laidlaw, retired 15 of 22 Cub batters in two

innings.

Faulconer speared a line drive and Sheldon recorded 11 putouts at

first.

David Fisher progressed at the plate.

* Rapillo and Sheldon led the Brewers defensively and offensively

along with Faulconer and Laidlaw against the Marlins. David, Sydney

and Matt Fisher, Jake Weyrich, Ian Ozimec, Jackson Kearl and Sean

Freeman all played strong.

In Pony play:

* Newport Harbor Storm 5, Costa Mesa Angels 4:

Matt Sarvack went 2 for 3, including the game-winning hit that

scored Zack Gagnon to lead the Storm March 9. Gagnon finished 2 for 3

with two runs scored and an RBI.

Tim High struck out the side to end the game and added two catches

in deep- center field.

Nick Vlahakis drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Storm a 4-3

lead.

Trevor Thomas walked and scored a run while Danny Moskovits added

solid fielding at shortstop and singled.

* Storm 6, Costa Mesa Dodgers 0:

Niko Hernandez tossed five shutout innings and went 1 for 2 with a

run scored to lead the Storm. Eric Holland pitched the final two

innings.

Gagnon went 3 for 3 while Sarvack had two hits in two at-bats.

Moskovits doubled, scored a run and tallied an RBI while Michael

Carscadden went 1 for 2 in the leadoff spot with a run scored.

Coby Peterson scored a run and played well in center field.
