Huntington continued its hot start in the Sunset League baseball race

by rallying to beat host Marina, 4-3.

The Oilers overcame a 3-0 deficit through three innings of play by

scoring once in the fourth, twice in the sixth and the game-winning

run in the top of the seventh.

Jordan Hargrave remained perfect on the year with his third

pitching win and Colin Balester got the save.

Hargrave, Balester and starter Justin Keadle scattered five hits.

Brandon Parillo hit a solo home run in the third inning as Marina

built a 3-0 lead.

Huntington followed that win with a tense, 1-0 decision over

visiting Edison to improve to 5-0.

Hargrave delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the

seventh and Balester went the distance to record his third win of the

season.

Marina bounced back to down visiting Los Alamitos, 8-5, as Justin

Sellers picked up a pair of hits and two RBIs.

In a wild rivalry game that saw the two teams combine for 21 hits,

Edison outlasted visiting Fountain Valley, 9-8.

Among Edison’s 10 hits was a three-run home run by Cort Ross in

the first inning, a three-run homer by Nate Mitani in the second

inning and a two-run homer by Andrew Mozeleski in the fourth, as

Edison overcame an 8-7 deficit.

Hughes and Alex Burnett each had on RBI.

In softball, Ocean View assumed first-place in the Golden West

League standings following a 5-4 victory over visiting Orange.

The Seahawks claimed the win when Jessica Cruz scored on an error

in the bottom of the sixth inning, which broke a 4-4 tie.

Cruz also had two RBIs.

Leah Needham, the third of three pitchers used by Ocean View,

recorded the win by throwing two innings of scoreless ball.

The Seahawks, however, suffered their first league loss in a 5-0

shutout at Westminster.

12-25, 15-25, 16-25, in the Sunset League opener for both schools.
