The Orange Coast College women’s tennis team earned a share of the

Orange Empire Conference championship following an 8-1 victory over

visiting Irvine Valley Thursday.

Coast (14-2, 11-1 in the OEC) wrapped up conference play tied with

Saddleback after sweeping all three doubles sets.

Leah Becker and Sabrina Tanamal defeated Andrea Nguyen and Amber

Vann, 8-2, to improve to 12-0 in doubles play this season.

Kai Moriyama and Thao Ho coasted to an 8-1 victory over Leili

Iranmanesh and Carrie Brown while Mika Okamura and Darlena Tran

earned a 8-4 triumph over Erin Imhoff and Barbara Yuen for the

Pirates, who won the OEC outright last year.

Moriyama didn’t lose a game in singles while Becker, Tanamal and

Tran each only lost one.

Becker, a sophomore, improved to 10-5 in singles and will pair

with Tanamal at the Ojai tournament later this month. Becker reached

the round of 16 in both singles and doubles last year.

Coast lost to Saddleback, 6-3, March 30, which snapped a 12-match

winning streak for OCC.

The Pirates begin play in the OEC singles and doubles tournament

Tuesday at Santa Ana College. Play will then continue Thursday,

Friday and Saturday, April 17, if necessary.
