Agency helping home-seekers

Costa Mesa’s Redevelopment Agency has funds available for the Home

Buyer Assistance Program. The program offers down payment assistance

of up to $40,000 in the form of a deferred second mortgage to

households earning no more than 120% of the Orange County median.

The home buyer must provide at least a 3% down payment, have

sufficient income and be creditworthy to qualify for a first mortgage

with a private lender. Purchase price limits have recently been

increased to the area median of $515,000.

If you have not had ownership interest in residential real estate

within the last three years, you may be eligible. The program is

first-come, first-served and funds are limited. Call (714) 754-4892

for more information.

See sharks at their earliest stage

The public is invited to view newborn sharks at the Back Bay

Science Center on April 17.

These pups are commonly found in the Upper Newport Bay. April 17

is also the deadline for elementary school students to enter a

shark-naming contest, in which the winner will receive a scholarship

to “Shark Camp” on May 22, a program that educates youth about sharks

and includes a dinner on Shellmaker Island, a presentation by a

marine biologist and fishing for sharks and sting rays on the dock.

Entries can be made by visiting the Back Bay Science Center or

calling (949) 640-9956. The shark sighting will be from 9 to 11 a.m.

at the center at 600 Shellmaker Road in Newport Beach.

Dealing Caddies with masterful efficiency

Nabers Cadillac in Costa Mesa was named a 2003 Master Dealer by GM

Corp. for excellence in sales and customer service. Winners had the

top Cadillac sales and received the highest ratings on their service

among dealerships of similar size. They were listed in the March 29

issue of Automotive News.

“It’s a very prestigious thing for a dealer to be in the top

list,” Nabers Cadillac owner Sonny Kapur said. This is Kapur’s first

time winning the designation since he took over the dealership two

years ago.

“It helps us keep our company morale high because our mission is

to keep every customer completely satisfied,” he said.
