A couple of positive Laguna events

I’m trying to remove the cobwebs from last night’s Lakers game

debacle that I unfortunately attended. That’s more than enough Laker

talk, let’s get down to some serious “Laguna Life” business and news.

We have a couple of important items this week beginning with a

beach cleanup day following the Easter holiday.

“The Clean Water Now! Coalition, joined by Surfrider and the South

Orange County Watershed Conservancy, will hold its “Adopt A Beach”

“Spring Cleaning” of Laguna strands and coves from 9 a.m. to noon on

April 17. Headquarters for the event will be at Main Beach. Trash

bags and gloves will be provided along with marine tide pool habitat,

water quality, water conservation and coastal information handouts.

Free all-day parking certificates will also be available. Yes it’s

true, help clean our beaches and receive free parking for the day

with some good karma on top of that.

Speaking of good karma, Laguna’s own Common Sense will be playing

a special concert to benefit “Children with Autism” at 5 p.m. April

24 at the Marriott Resort and Spa.

Donations of $40 will grant attendees entrance to the show and a

barbecue dinner. A special play area will be set up for autistic

children.

So there you have it, a couple of great events for some great

causes and a couple of thumbs up.

Staying with tradition, this week’s thumbs down goes to City

Manager Ken Frank for maintaining that Laguna Beach does not need to

employ seasonal employees (Lifeguards) on a full-time basis. Wow, so

does this mean that all the people using the ocean outside of Frank’s

seasonal months don’t count? I’d like to see him tell their loved

ones that.
